Appearance[]
Manny's scythe is more akin to a pocket knife, with a collapsable shaft and retractable blade that keeps the item portable and easy to carry, but still able to fold out to full-size when needed.
Role in game[]
The scythe is a standard piece of equipment issued to reapers who work for the Department of Death, as it is used to cut open the hulls of newly deceased souls. The only other character seen wielding a scythe is Domino Hurley during his duel with Manny in Year Three.
The scythe is the first item Manny has in his inventory at the start of the game and is the only item that is present in each year, being used to solve a variety of puzzles, such as,
- Opening Bruno Martinez's hull
- Retrieving a bone from the spiderweb in the Petrified Forest
- Finding the metal detector in the Feline Meadow's litter box after Carla tosses it
- Blockading the pantry doors in the High Roller's Lounge to trap Raoul
- Pulling the anchor into the S.S. Lola
- Being inserted into the tumblers of the safe locking up Meche
- Triggering the metal contact inside the safe to reveal a secret room
- Slashing the pipes in the secret room
- Poking the eye of Domino's pet octopus
Only during one brief period of time during Year Four is the scythe not in Manny's possession.
