"Yes. I think tonights the night. That you finally go nuts from waiting for the grand entrance of Ms. Mercedes Colomar!"

Lupe, talking with Manny

Lupe was the energetic coat-check girl working in the Calavera Café, serving as a side character who assists in many puzzles needed to progress through Year 2.

Personality[]

Lupe loves her job, finding it exciting to improve her system of organizing coats at the Calavera Cafe, and explains how she's made improvements to the system to anyone who will listen with overenthusiastic glee. When explaining, she often claps and uses hand motions to accentuate her excitement. However, she becomes easily frustrated when she is not being listened to, or discovers something amiss in her system.

Role in Year 2[]

At the start of Year 2, Lupe greets Manny at the coat-check counter and explains the newest improvements made to her organizational system, and how she's incorporating leftover plastic tiles she found in the backroom. This detail, though ignored by Manny initially, is essential to solving a later puzzle involving the location of Nick and Olivia's photo.

Quotes[]

  • "I HAVE TO TELL YOU ABOUT MY NEW ORGANIZATIONAL SYSTEM FOR THE COATS!" - Lupe, upon first speaking to Manny
  • "Don't patronize me, Cal." - Lupe, frustrated with Manny after he ignores her explanation

Trivia[]

  • Lupe's bubbly energy seems to get on the nerves of people, such as Carla. In a conversation with Manny, Carla explains that she doesn't come by the club anymore because of her, and wants to strangle her; to which he replies: "I've tried that. It doesn't stop her."
  • Lupe's personality was based off of that of Lleslle Aclaro, a production manager on Grim Fandango.
  • When playing the piano after Glottis leaves for the High Rollers Lounge, Lupe will clap and cheer in support as Manny sings.
  • Lupe can be handed a variety of different items with varying reactions to each. When handed Lola's jacket, she excitedly takes it and tells Manny she'll give him a card, where Manny tells her she already gave him one, and becomes frustrated when he claims he's lost it. She can also be handed the slip of paper for #36 The Rusty Anchor, in which she tells Manny that the number isn't even in her system, and she wouldn't let someone check in a "rusty anchor" anyways.
